Adjusting an odometer is not in itself a criminal offence in the UK. The usual legitimate job is a replacement cluster set to the car's true mileage.
Selling or describing a car with a mileage you know is false is an offence, so always declare the true figure. The government has announced plans for a specific odometer tampering offence, so this may change.
Since February 2014 the MOT checks that a DPF is present where the car was built with one. A missing filter is an automatic fail.
Driving a DPF-equipped car on the road without it is an offence, with fines of up to £1,000 for cars and £2,000 for vans. Cleaning and repair keep it working and keep you legal.
